Dry, Floral and Fragrant
This is an interesting one which we struggled to settle on a name for it. It's made with a white grape that really is grey, using red wine making techniques that produces a wine that looks like Rosé. Far more importantly, it produces a really tasty wine that drinks like a grown up version of Rosé.
REGION: Pyrenees, Victoria
VINEYARD: Camfield Family Vineyard
VINTAGE: 2022
VARIETAL: Pinot Gris
GROWING SEASON: The theme of the 2022 season was cool and wet. This weather created challenges in flowerset which resulted in lower yields than the 2021 vintage. However, these cooler conditions resulted in great flavour development at lower sugar levels.
ALCOHOL: 11.5% - 6.8 standard drinks
WINEMAKING: Destemmed fruit that was then split into two parcels. First parcel spent two days on skins before heading to the press. The second parcel spent 5 days on skins before heading to the press. After a long native ferment, each parcel spent time in old French oak or stainless steel tank before being blended together.
FOOD MATCH: A very, versatile wine. Naturally I think of charcuterie but it has the weight to be able to stand up for heavier dishes such as rich pastas or even the classic roast chicken.
